Lyn Kiehl

Lyn moved to New Mexico in 2011 after receiving her law degree from Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University. While in law school, she served as the Research Director for the Center for Law, Science & Innovation and became involved with the Arizona Innocence Justice Project, first as a volunteer and then as a clinic student. She was privileged to get to know Larry Hammond, the creator of the Arizona Justice Project, and Larry encouraged her to connect with the New Mexico IJP upon relocation. Beginning in 2012 Lyn combined her passions of science and law by working with capital criminal defense teams across the country to help them use neuroscience and neuroimaging and other specialized scientific experts to provide comprehensive mental health and medical evaluations to improve and inform the evidence presented in competency, guilt, and sentencing proceedings. Prior to law school her Master’s thesis focused on the automatic transfer of juveniles to adult court. She hopes being involved with the NMIJP will allow her to contribute to efforts to address cases of manifest injustice.
